SUSTAINABILITY
New opportunities in the flexible packaging market
At GRACOS we are committed to develop packaging materials and formats that can help reduce any negative impact on the environment.

Our technical expertise and manufacturing capabilities put us in an optimal position to drive innovation for more sustainable flexible packaging solutions.
The design and development of sustainable packaging for the CIRCULAR ECONOMY is based on:

CIRCULAR ECONOMY
From linear to circular
A circular economy is an alternative to a traditional linear economy (make, use, dispose) in which we keep resources in use for as long as possible, extract the most value from them while they are in use, then recover and regenerate products and materials. at the end of each useful life.

RECYCLABLE
Media and materials
This term refers to the ability of waste materials to be captured and separated from the waste stream to be converted into a new item or reused in the same capacity.
It is the ability of a material to be captured and separated from a waste stream for conversion or reuse.

Bio-based materials are derived from biomass, plant and animal origins.
Bio-based plastics and materials should not be assumed to be degradable, that is the source of the raw materials.

Biodegradation: transformation into water, CO2 and biomass. Degradation due to the action of microorganisms without the need for a period of time.

Composting: degradation by the action of microorganisms within a specified period of time and conditions. All films or packaging that comply with EN13432 are classified as compostable.

Qualification standards: EN 13432, BS EN 13432, BS EN 14995, DIN V 54900, ASTM D6400.
COMPOSTABILITY
To be considered compostable, packaging typically must be tested by a licensed third party to ensure it meets a specific standard.

The ASTM D6400 / EN13232 test standard requires that 60% of the organic carbon be converted to carbon dioxide in 180 days and that the residue is non-toxic to the environment.
